About Douglas

“As an undergraduate, I was looking for a field of study with both interesting science research as well as quality patient care. I was attracted to this area because the lab work was both challenging and rewarding as well as a fascinating area of research. I am very involved in research on how the sperm influences embryo growth. My research specifically looks at genetic and epigenetic factors in a sperm or egg that affect the ability of the embryo to grow normally.”

“The most compelling aspect of my job has always been helping infertile patients with this basic part of human life, and if we’re unsuccessful, at least giving them the knowledge that we have done the best we can. After 35 years working in the field, it is still beautiful and almost magical to watch the process of fertilization and embryogenesis.”

Dr. Carrell has been the IVF and Andrology Laboratory Director since 1995 and an Embryologist at CRM since its inception. Dr. Carrell holds a faculty position at the University of Utah School of Medicine, where he is also the IVF Laboratory Director.
